Board Member Bios

Mara DeFilippis: Founder, CEO

Ms. DeFilippis is the founder of the Phoenix Green Chamber of Commerce.  She was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the organization in 2008.  The Phoenix Green Chamber is the reflection of her vision to promote the success of businesses committed to environmental and social responsibility.

Prior to founding the Green Chamber, she was a licensed certified public accountant (CPA).  Ms. DeFilippis spent several years with Merrill Lynch and a local boutique securities broker as a licensed financial advisor. During her career in the securities industry, she focused on identifying socially and environmentally responsible companies for clients of those firms who had a commitment to socially responsible investments. It is her belief that the current economic structure has tremendous capacity and opportunity for growth and success with a more responsible and long-sighted approach. As her involvement in the community increased, she identified a need for a structure that provided local information, resources and connectivity. The concept for the Green Chamber developed for over 1 ½ years prior to launch. Ms. DeFilippis also has a strong background in human resources as a previous HR Director, where she was responsible for 130 employees of a parent company and seven subsidiaries.

Ms. DeFilippis graduated Cum Laude from Arizona State University with a degree in accounting. She has a long record of championing environmental, children’s and women’s causes.  She currently resides in Mesa, Arizona with her son, Nicholas.

Philip D. Allsopp, RIBA, FRSA: Chariman of the Board
Transpolis Global

Phil is co-founder of Transpolis Global, a professional services firm combining management consulting, public policy development and urban design to improve the sustainability and energy independence of urban and rural habitats. Phil and his partners in London and Prague are working on a variety of projects in the US, Sweden and UK.

From early 2006 through Phil served as CEO through July 2009, Phil served as President and Chief Executive officer of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, headquartered at Wright’s Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona. During his tenure, he was responsible for restructuring the Foundation from governance (new bylaws and articles of incorporation), finance, licensing and operations and the development of new relationships with academia, arts and culture organizations, government and business. One of several collaborations Phil developed during his tenure was with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. The jointly curated, produced and designed exhibition entitled “Frank Lloyd Wright: From Within Outward”, broke all of the Guggenheim’s previous attendance records during the exhibition’s three-month run at the Guggenheim in New York.  The Exhibition traveled to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao in October where it ran through February 14th, 2010.

Phil has spent the major part of his career in the management consulting field in the United States holding practice leadership roles with major firms including A.T. Kearney, Electronic Data Systems Corporation, Axios Data Analysis Systems Corporation and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC).  Phil holds a D.Arch with First Class Honors from Kingston University London, is a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in London. Winning a Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Scholarship, Phil earned a Master of Science degree in health services planning and design from Columbia University, New York, after which he served in the US Government as a Public Health Service Fellow assigned to the Office of the Surgeon General and also the Health Care Financing Administration.

Phil is also a Trustee of the Sonoran Institute, serves as Vice President of the Board of Trustees for the Royal Institute of British Architects, USA (RIBA-USA, Inc.), and also is Treasurer of Local First Arizona Foundation.

Phil and his wife Lauren live in Scottsdale, Arizona, they have three children, David (26), Melanie (23) and Tiffany (21).

Tracy Rish: Treasurer
Rish CPA, PLLC

Tracy Rish is a certified public accountant with more than 22 years of experience in accounting and business. She offers CFO savvy and strategic accounting services to small to mid-size companies that simply don’t have the budget for an in house CFO. Owning her first business at age 24, Ms. Rish is aware of the efforts and resources required for business owners to start, maintain and grow a successful venture. Her services also include business and individual tax preparation, review and audit support, bookkeeping services. She has experience working in a variety of industries including construction, manufacturing, medical, marketing, retail and non-profit.

After graduating from Arizona State University with her Bachelor of Science in Accounting Tracy went on to become a CPA in the state of Arizona. She has been a member of the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants and currently serves as Treasurer for the Phoenix Chapter of the Arizona Green Chamber of Commerce.

Tracy and Matt live in Gilbert, Arizona with her son, Justin, yellow lab, Jake, and rescue cat, Cali. She enjoys outdoor activities from hiking in the mountains to enjoying a day at the beach.

a.k.a. Green and a.k.a. Green Services

Jeff Frost is the co-founder and partner of a.k.a. Green, the Valley’s leading supplier of eco-friendly building materials. Frost is also a consultant for a.k.a. Green Services, providing guidance and inspiration to professionals who wish to integrate more environmentally sustainable building and design into their practices. He also assists those seeking to evolve their environments into healthier, more sustainable work and living spaces.

Although his career began in Michigan, Frost was attracted by all the building possibilities in the desert climate and decided to move out to Arizona in 1999. He then joined Salazar Associates, where he served as a project manager and designer. He also worked at Sol Source Architecture and Building, an architectural firm that specialized in environmental design from 2001-2006. Frost attended Lawrence Technological University where he earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Architecture. He is also a member of AIA and LEED Accredited Professional.

Douglas McCord, RA, NCARB, LEED-AP: Member at Large
Moran Architects

A practicing architect and leader in sustainable design for more than a decade, Doug was instrumental in helping Paul Moran to position Scottsdale-based Moran Architects at the forefront of sustainable design. Doug has applied sustainable principals to diverse building types, from spas and resorts to schools and affordable housing. He was one of the first individuals to be LEED accredited in Arizona and has been actively involved with the Arizona Chapter of the US Green Building Council since its inception, serving on the board from 2005-08. As an outspoken proponent of the benefits of sustainable design to the triple bottom line, he is a frequent guest lecturer and speaker on green issues at colleges, community groups and conferences across the country. Doug has a background in mechanical engineering, crossing over to architecture in his masters studies at Arizona State University, where he has also been teaching sustainable design since 1998. A continuing force in the green design/building movement, Doug now serves on the board Arizona Green Chamber’s Phoenix Chapter.

Kelly Wood: Co-chair of the Communications Committee
KWPR Group, Inc.

Principal of KWPR Group, Kelly Wood is passionate about working with expanding businesses seeking stronger brand recognition and increased visibility. Her background includes eight years in sales, marketing and public relations, giving her a holistic understanding of the most effective ways in which PR can be leveraged to drive the success of product, service and overall brand image.

Helping her clients forge strong relationships with targeted audiences is now the crux of Kelly’s work because she believes that credibility and an emotional connection with consumers translates into profitability and a long term success momentum. In her six years in the Valley, she has devised and implemented hundreds of successful outreach campaigns on behalf of her clients, including VIP/opening events, community relations and cause-related initiatives, and valuable print, broadcast and online media coverage.

Kelly has also served on several committees for the Phoenix chapter of the PRSA, including the Media Breakfast Planning committee and the 2005 Copper Anvil Awards committee. She currently resides in Cave Creek with her husband and 2 ½ year-old son. A self-proclaimed health-nut, she enjoys running, hiking and yoga.

Jonce Walker, LEED-AP: Member at Large
Maricopa County Green Government Program

Jonce Walker, a LEED Accredited Professional, is the Sustainability Manager for Maricopa County Arizona which employs over 11,000 people and is the 14th largest County in the United States. Jonce co-authored and manages the Maricopa County Green Government Program, a 124 measure comprehensive policy document designed to lead by example in furthering regional sustainability. Jonce is also responsible for interacting with the green business community and continuing to transition the County forward towards more energy efficiency and eco-friendly technology. Additionally, Jonce manages the Green Government Council, a group of Maricopa County management representing various internal departments in their sustainability efforts.

Jonce is active in the Central Arizona USGBC chapter where he is the vice-chair of the GreenBuild 09 Legacy Committee. Working with various municipalities in the region Jonce is also helping to develop Sustainable Best Management Practices within the Arizona State University Sustainable Cities Network.

Previously, Jonce’s passion for a sustainable future has led him to work as an eco-friendly product specialist and a LEED for Homes consultant at akagreen, a residential green building supply and design store. At akagreen he educated consumers about materials, resources, and lifestyle changes that are better for the environment as well as consulting on homes that received LEED certification.

Jonce is enamored with the outdoors and spends a lot of time with his wife Kate and two sons Cade and Clive experiencing this gift.

Keep Phoenix Beautiful

Tom is Executive Director of Keep Phoenix Beautiful, a 501(c)3 organization committed to recycling management and litter control in Phoenix. Prior to his position at KPB, he was Operations Director at the 1000 member Tempe Chamber of Commerce. He attended Loyola University of Chicago and the US Chamber of Commerce Institute of Organization Management.

Prior to his move to Phoenix in 2002, he was Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce in the Wrigley Field area of Chicago, and was also a small business owner for over 20 years.

Tom is an avid runner, recently completing in his 20th marathon in Chicago. He comes from a family of 8 children spread out all across the country. Tom and his wife Nancy live at the base of the McDowell Mountains on the Scottsdale/Fountain Hills border, where you can usually find him on weekends running the trails.

Catering and Event Concepts

Colin Tetreault holds a Master of Arts from Arizona State University’s School of Sustainability, the 
first program of its kind in the United States. Colin serves as the director of sustainability for Atlasta 
Catering and Event Concepts, where he is charged with changing organizational structure and
culture to be more sustainability minded. His efforts impact all levels of systems from employees
and managers to suppliers and customers. Colin holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the
W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. He has studied international business and
development at the Baltic School of Business and consulted for an international telecommunications 
firm while living in Sweden.

Colin’s work ethic centers on advancing businesses, organizations, and governments dedicated to
responsible growth with principles. Businesses, organizations, and governments today, more than
any other time since even the industrial revolution or the invention of capitalism, have the
opportunity to be forces for positive change in the world while doing well, to be profitable and
successful in all instances.

Colin includes his position as a competitive age-group triathlete a point of pride. Last summer, he finished the Ironman in Japan and
competed in Arizona’s competition in November. He is an avid hiker and outdoor enthusiast since earning his Eagle Scout designation.
